(Mexican League) The first recorded baseball game in Mexico took place in 1889 and interest skyrocketed after a visit by the Chicago White Sox in 1906. Pro leagues were in business by the 1920s and went on to feature many black stars including Ray Dandridge, Josh Gibson and Roy Campanella (members of both the U.S. and Mexican Baseball Halls of Fame). The Diablos Rojos twelve-time Mexican League champs have dominated Mexican baseball since their formation in 1940. |
