Lacrosse is America's oldest sport. It was named so by a French missionary because the sticks resembled a Bishop's crosier. It is Canada's summer sport, but was originally played in eastern prep schools. The students then took the game off to college.
Suddenly in the 90s it changed. It is now the fastest growing sport in the US up 300% in a decade. 2 pro leagues one exist, one outdoor and one indoor. Only basketball draws larger crowds to its college championships. 125,000 showed up for the 3 days of the men's playoffs in Philadelphia in 2005.
